Futility

“more and more, I feel a futility....”

More and more, we feel futility
For our lack of adaptability;
Despite all our knowing,
We still keep on going
To the best of our ability.

Methane Ends It All

Global Extinction within one Human Lifetime as a Result of a Spreading Atmospheric Arctic Methane Heat wave and Surface Firestorm
http://arctic-news.blogspot.com/p/global-extinction-within-one-human.html
H/T: Guy McPherson

Many things could have come down the track
To strike the definitive whack,
But clathrates that thaw
Might be the last straw
That breaks the poor camel’s back.

The Global Contradiction

http://johnludi.blogspot.com/2012/04/global-contradiction.html?m=1

We experience life as a fusion
Of autonomy and collusion;
Much that’s connected
Remains undetected
Because of our free will illusion.

Peak Death Certificates

Budget Cuts May Kill Death Investigations In Lane County (Oregon)

To be dead, you must fully comply
With appropriate forms stating why;
If those don’t get filled out,
There’ll always be doubt
You were actually able to die.

It’s Over Forever

Now ends the human endeavor:
We weren’t sufficiently clever;
There's no use pretending,
Our time has an ending—
It’s over for us, forever.

Limerick Limerick

NRC reveals radioactive water spill at Limerick nuke plant

Some more awful news to make you sick:
Radioactive junk going in the crick;
Ere our species expires,
This story requires
A limerick based upon Limerick.

A broken DNA core
Is something we cannot restore;
Future generations
Will suffer mutations,
But there won’t be too many more.

Eight Old School Diseases Making a Comeback

As we’re modern medicine-deprived,
Old diseases will soon be revived;
But they shouldn’t boast:
Extinction of their host
Means their comeback will be quite short-lived.

Meaningless Activity

Bits of reason and adequate rhyme,
No effect, though intentions sublime:
Waving poems unfurled,
I’m saving the world
One limerick at a time.

Dead Dolphins

615 dead dolphins found on Peru beaches; acoustic tests for oil to blame?

We are the food chain’s top link,
Sustained by what we eat and drink;
We achieved some great gains
Because of big brains,
But we’re not quite as nice as we think.

Identity Crisis

We thought we were better than beasts,
And would always eat top food chain feasts;
Earth’s sixth great extinction
Deletes that distinction:
We’re not too much different from yeasts.

Shakespeare Doom: Macbeth and Hamlet

Signifying Nothing

The human we’ve come to adore:
A poor player who’s almost done for;
He struts and he frets
In the hour he gets
On earth’s stage, then is heard no more.

To Be or Not To Be

—Will we be? Is survival our lot?
Is staying onstage our play’s plot?
—It will get way too hot
And we cannot do squat,
So it’s looking to be we will not.

Burnout and Depression

Burnout means working place stressed,
Like the doomer, who rests from preps quest;
Symptoms also suggest
Kubler-Ross type depressed—
Understandable, once it’s addressed.

Once the meaning of doom gets across,
The next thing’s to deal with the loss;
You’ll find there’s no cure,
But to help you endure,
There’s a treatment called Kubler-Ross.

Kubler-Ross helps us contrive
A method by which we can strive;
And yes, it’s a chore,
But we must do Stage Four
Before we arrive at Stage Five.

Doomers might feel unconnected
And hide when they're feeling dejected,
But once you admit
That we're in deep shit,
Depression should be expected.

“The Downhill Spiral” Blog

The REAL Lesson From Obama’s “Keystone Cave-In”
“’Leaders’ like Obama have been put into place by his billionaire backers in order to pull the wool over the eyes of the masses and keep the game going for as long as possible.”
http://billhicksisdead.blogspot.com/2012/03/real-lesson-from-obamas-keystone-cave.html#comment-form

A look at the problems ahead
Finds little to offer instead;
The oil is plateauing,
So keep the game going,
Because once it stops we’re all dead.

Startup Company Coverts Plastic to Oil

Shuffling hydrocarbon chains
Will not yield significant gains;
It’s more chair-shuffling panic
Aboard the Titanic
In what little time now remains.

Economists “Baffled” By Slow Economic Growth Despite “Improving Employment”
http://billhicksisdead.blogspot.com/2012/03/economists-baffled-by-slow-economic.html

Our system’s not yet reached the goal
Of one-sided news for the prole
Which doesn’t admit
That when news doesn’t fit
It gets dropped in the memory hole.

Generation FAIL. Baby Boomers Suffering In the Great Recession

For many, the Oil Age was great,
And supported a fine mental state;
But born early or late
Is no reason to hate:
We all must accept our fate.
